Interesting flowers, from bulbs which burst out of the ground before the foliage.
My favourite today is the second design.

Interesting layout made possible by Electric Quilt. Any pieced block using squares and rectangles can be used as a quilt layout, and drawing a pieced block is much simpler than placing individual blocks in a quilt.
When I looked into this feature I started designing blocks which could be used in this way. Most of them are unsuitable for individual blocks, and they are a real challenge to use as quilt layouts because square applique designs get distorted when used in a rectangle.
Love love the second design, though though one of the block designs should be modified to suit ...

The centre of the first design is pretty much what a Brunsvigia flower looks like, though because they take ten years to start flowering after you plant the bulbs I have seen only one in the last five years, when one of the bulbs I have in my current garden flowered way earlier than expected.
I am looking forward to seeing a lot of flowers in about 2027in both front and back gardens.
In the mean time, I am looking forward to seeing gladiolas in my garden this year, with the second batch of bulbs just starting to peep out ...

The flowers have taken over and are dancing all over the garden!
The settings used in this project file are based on pieced blocks which use just squares and rectangles. I have built up a collection of the blocks for use in Electric Quilt just as quilt layouts. I should use them more often.
I don’t think I look as pretty as this when I dance around the garden trying to keep warm at the moment.

Today’s designs make use of a feature of Electric Quilt which allows us to use a feature which will turn any block diagram which uses squares and rectangles into a quilt layout.
I love the second design!

I like the first design for today …
… but I love the second one!
I really should play with custom settings more often.

Love the one above …
… and the next one more!
I have been away from home for a couple of days with fellow quilters, so today’s first job is to get my feet back on the ground, back in the land of reality.

Love this project file and all the designs in it.
The layouts are based on pieced blocks created with squares and rectangles … no odd angles.
This is one feature of Electric quilt I should utilize more as I like the results every time i do use it!

How many ways can one flower grow?
As many as you want if you do it virtually!
Also helps if you start out trying to draw a real flower when your drawing skills are fairly limited and decide to use a lot of artistic licence.
I like both of the designs, and I like that the real plants are about to die back for summer but I have the virtual flowers to arrange and rearrange at leisure any time I like. I also like that I don’t have to wait ten years for the virtual flowers to appear, unlike ...

Interesting!
The leaves of my real brunsvigia are big and strappy … augers well for the flowers which I expect in 7 or eight years! (Unless I dig them up to move them again in that time frame.) It would be nice if the flowers waited for the leaves instead of appearing before any green is to be seen, but the flowers are still spectacular.

I am counting down the years before my two clumps of these bulbs flower … they do not flower for ten years after being disturbed, so I have seven years to wait. The bonus is I brought about 15 bulbs with me, and they will multiply before they flower!
I like the one above, but I would like another strip of boarder around it to stop the bulbs spreading over the path!
In the second design the flowers are part of the border!

I seem to be attracted to green projects at the moment … perhaps it is because the green paddocks have turned to various shades of gold, or I am thinking of the green I am about to let loose from storage in the form of Christmas trees and garlands.
